REDATS P-160
REDATS P-180
REDATS P-220
REDATS P-350

Pneumatic wrench – what power?

It is this parameter that should be the most important one you take into account when looking for a pneumatic wrench. The power of pneumatic wrenches determines the torque that a particular device is able to achieve. How to read this value? It is nothing more than the force that a given key is able to generate at a given moment – for example, after the first pull of the trigger.

How to understand? Generally, the higher the wrench’s maximum torque, the more power the device has. That is – the more difficult screws it is able to unscrew.

How much torque can REDATS pneumatic wrenches generate? We describe in this table:

Model Maximum torque

REDATS P-120 key 1450Nm
REDATS P-160 key 1500Nm
REDATS P-180 key 1900Nm
REDATS P-220 key 2200Nm
REDATS P-350 key 5000Nm

Impact wrench – how many NM?
Logically, it would be enough to buy a key that generates the highest possible torque values. Theoretically, no screw, even a difficult one, will be able to overcome such a wrench!

Just… that’s right. Sometimes it’s just not worth overpaying. It is worth choosing pneumatic wrenches for real needs, i.e. for the work you do most often. For example – there is no point in buying a wrench that generates 2200 Nm of torque if you work on passenger tire service every day.

And remember one thing too. The maximum torque of the wrench is generated only during a short time – for example, immediately after pressing the trigger. It’s not like a given wrench works with one power all the time – only the range of newton meters that the device is able to generate is described – this is often referred to as “operating torque”.

For example – the REDATS P-160 wrench has a working torque from 68 to 1054 Nm

Pneumatic wheel wrench – which one?
You often ask about it. Therefore – we answer. In our opinion, wrenches generating from 1450 to 1500 Nm of maximum torque are able to work without any problems on vulcanization that supports passenger cars. Finally, the pins in the wheels are tightened to values of the order of several Nm.

On the other hand, wrenches generating 1900 Nm give you a free torque reserve to work with, for example, more demanding screws.

To sum up – here is our opinion on the subject – which pneumatic wrench for passenger wheels:

Model Moment Price Place in the ranking
P-120 1450Nm PLN 199 1
P-160 1500Nm PLN 259 1 (tied with P-120)
P-180 1900Nm PLN 359 2
P-220 2200Nm PLN 519 3
Why do we have two winners? In fact, both of these wrenches are ideal for tire service applications. However, the P-120 wrench won because it is also several dozen zlotys cheaper.

PNEUMATIC WRENCH – CONSTRUCTION
When browsing the offers of various manufacturers of pneumatic wrenches, we can often come across such an element as a “double hammer”. What is it? How does it relate to torque?

The TWIN HAMMER mechanism, because we are talking about it, is one of the most popular solutions in the field of impact mechanisms. It is based on the work of two hammers that rotate around the spindle. Thanks to it, the power of the key is available from the first revolutions of the rotor.

The pneumatic wheel wrench equipped with TWIN HAMMER is therefore ready for the most difficult challenges – unscrewing bolts not only in wheels or suspension, but also in other vehicle components.

Is such a solution permanent? Yes. It’s a very simple structure, so maintenance is relatively easy. The Twin Hammer mechanism is designed with long cycle times in mind, so

Double beater – what is it?
When browsing the offers of various manufacturers of pneumatic wrenches, we can often come across such an element as a “double hammer”. What is it? How does it relate to torque?

The TWIN HAMMER mechanism, because we are talking about it, is one of the most popular solutions in the field of impact mechanisms. It is based on the work of two hammers that rotate around the spindle. Thanks to it, the power of the key is available from the first revolutions of the rotor.

Is such a solution permanent? Yes. It’s a very simple structure, so maintenance is relatively easy. The Twin Hammer mechanism is designed for long work cycles, so regular oiling is enough to ensure its durability.

Which keys have a “double hammer”?
This solution is available in more expensive keys. Below is a summary showing what mechanisms have been used in individual REDATS products.

Model Mechanism
REDATS P-120 key Twin Hammer
REDATS P-160 key Twin Hammer
REDATS P-180 key Twin Hammer
REDATS P-220 key Twin Hammer
REDATS P-350 key Pinless
Pinless mechanism – principle of operation

As you can see, the REDATS P-350 pneumatic wrench is equipped with a completely different type of mechanism than the others. What is the construction of the pinless mechanism?

Unlike the Twin Hammer mechanism, the pinless solution has only one hammer. It rotates around the spigot. It is a single piece, without any additional parts. This is important not only for its servicing, but above all it gives you the certainty of exceptional power during operation.

Why does it matter so much? Thanks to the fact that the mechanism is built in this way, it is able to transfer high power almost immediately. It is no coincidence that keys for “large” vehicles are equipped with this mechanism!

Pneumatic impact wrenches and torque setting
Speaking of the torque, it is worth remembering that the ease of adjusting the torque to a specific need also affects the comfort of working with the wrench. To put it simply – good wrenches have at least several levels of power adjustment. How do the REDATS proposals fare in this regard? You will see in the table below.

Model Tightening adjustment Place in the ranking
P-120 3 steps 2
P-160 3 steps 2
P-180 4 degrees 1
P-220 3 steps 2

Why is it so important? As you probably know – a big moment is important… BUT! Don’t overdo it. If we treat the screw with too much torque, there is a risk of thread breakage. Therefore – it is worth choosing a wrench that has a torque adjustment. That is – when the torque value reaches the set level, the clutch is activated.

As you can see in the table above, the REDATS P-180 pneumatic wrench has four levels of tightening adjustment. With its maximum torque (as much as 1900 Nm), this is very important – a large force could break the thread.

We’ve got the tech. Now let’s talk a little about how important the housing is for your comfort of work. More precisely – the weight of the key. But for starters, let’s check how much each REDATS impact wrench model weighs

Why are we writing about it? Remember that you often work with a pneumatic wrench for a long time. How it fits in the hand is of great importance. The hand also gets tired, and additionally burdening it with a wrench will cause even more fatigue. Therefore, it is worth choosing a “pneumata” that is as light as possible.

The key’s weight is primarily influenced by the material used for its housing. For example, metal wrenches are significantly heavier than tools made of composite – such as those from REDATS. It’s worth remembering when choosing a key.

How much does high power weigh?

Model Moment Libra Place in the ranking
P-120 1450Nm 2.1 kg 3
P-160 1500Nm 2.2 kg 2
P-180 1900Nm 2.3 kg 4
P-220 2200Nm 2.14 kg 1
Housing and working comfort
Pneumatic impact wrenches also differ in the finish of the handle. It’s a detail, but… very important!

Well, imagine this situation. It’s a winter morning. You take the key in your hand. The metal housing is unpleasant to the touch.

That’s why it’s so important to choose a wrench that has a composite housing. This is a solution that will provide you with comfort in such conditions. In addition, a pneumatic impact wrench with a composite body will also provide much better comfort of work – it simply fits better in the hand, so working with it is much more precise.

Which 50L compressor wrench?
Pneumatic wrenches need air. Lots of air. This is why it is so important to choose the right compressor to power our “pneumata”. They just won’t work without it. Which compressor air wrench?

What parameters do you need to pay attention to? Here they are:

average air consumption (this is the key)
efficiency on the exhaust (it’s the compressor)
How much air do REDATS keys use?

Model Average air consumption
REDATS P-120 key 150 l/min
REDATS P-160 key 150 l/min
REDATS P-180 key 150 l/min
REDATS P-220 key 170 l/min
What pneumatic wrench for the compressor – read!

Work without interruptions
What does this mean for you? When choosing the right compressor for your service, pay attention to the exhaust efficiency – it is this parameter that will tell you whether this particular device will be able to power your key.

Air wrench for wheels and sockets
Looking for solid impact wrench sockets? Pay attention to the material from which the product is made!

The pneumatic wrench generates very high torques. So if you are looking for the right sockets to work with the “pneumat”, pay attention to impact sockets.

Why is it so important?

First, impact sockets have thicker walls. This gives them much better durability.

In addition, impact sockets are more durable and resilient, so they last longer – they just don’t wear out.

When choosing attachments, pay attention to the material from which they are made. The safest choice will be those made of chrome-molybdenum steel. Sockets made of this material have thicker walls than standard tools. Thanks to this, they retain their shape much longer than standard solutions.

Pneumatic wrenches ranking – results

Admittedly, we don’t have a unanimous winner here. However, it is worth remembering the following factors when choosing an air wrench

  • max. torque
  • weight
  • number of torque settings
  • torque generating mechanism
  • the wrench’s need for air (it will make it easier to answer the frequently asked question – pneumatic wrench which compressor)
